Athletic Update
The athletics department would like to congratulate the OU women's basketball class of 2009 for their incredible four years on the hardwood. The women's team advanced to their second consecutive "Sweet 16" last month before falling to eventual Division III champion, George Fox. The class of 2009 won more than 20 games and advanced to the NCAA Tournament (including last year's Final Four appearance) in each of their four years on campus while compiling a staggering 97-26 overall record. The graduating seniors of Katie Kulavic, Anna Findley, Biz Richmann, Tina Grace, Hannah Brooks, Jamie Osmanson and Carisa Mitchell will be sorely missed next fall.

On the baseball diamond, the Stormy Petrels recently put together a nine-game winning streak to raise their overall record on the season to 15-8 at press time. Head coach Dan Giordano has gotten a group that includes only two seniors to start playing like seasoned veterans and the team has responded with their longest winning streak in over five seasons. The Petrels will look to continue to make some noise as they head into the meat of their conference schedule this coming month.

On the tennis courts, head coach Peter Howell has guided the men's tennis team to the No. 14 ranking in the Atlantic South region. So far on the season, the Petrels have topped conference opponents Millsaps, Southwestern and Centre en route to posting a 6-2 overall record. Oglethorpe is led by senior Luka Cerenko who is holding the No. 11 individual ranking in the Atlantic South Region.

Not to be outdone, of course, is the men's golf team which head coach Jim Owen has in the national spotlight once again. The men are currently holding the No. 4 ranking in the Nike / Golf World Magazine Coaches Poll and are coming off a solid second place finish at the annual Camp Lejeune Invitational. The Petrels only finished 5 strokes off the pace set by national No. 2 Methodist at Camp Lejeune and managed to one-up the Monarchs in the individual category as Oglethorpe freshman Colin Chapman took medalist honors over Methodist's top player in a two-hole playoff. The Stormy Petrels will appear in the Emory Spring Classic and the SCAC Tournament before heading to Florida for another shot at the Division III title.
