    Parents Weekend 2008
    Friday, October 24 - Sunday, October 26

    Parents and family members are invited back to campus to experience Oglethorpe University with their student!

    Registration for Parents Weekend is $35 per person for family members. Children 12 and under are complimentary, and Oglethorpe University students do not pay to attend Parents Weekend activities unless otherwise noted.

    Below is a complete schedule of Parents Weekend 2008.

    Oglethorpe University has also blocked rooms at
    two Buckhead hotels for Parents Weekend. Be sure to check out those special, limited rates!

    Friday, October 24

    10:00 - 11:50 a.m.
    Classes Without Quizzes
    Various Classrooms
    Be sure to stop by the alumni office to pick up a list of participating classes. Visit your student's classes and experience life as a student. No worries -- no quizzes for you!

    5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
    Dinner with your Student in the Dining Hall or on the Town
    Choose to dine in the Oglethorpe cafeteria with your student or enjoy the many restaurants Atlanta has to offer!
    Please note that this is not included in the price for Parents Weekend. ($10 per person).

    6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
    Hospitality Table and Registration Check-in Point

    Stop by the hospitality table to check-in and pick up your welcome packet.

    7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
    President’s Welcome Reception

    Oglethorpe University Museum of Art (Third Floor of Weltner Library)
    Join Dr. Lawrence Schall, faculty members, families and students for a light reception in the award-winning Oglethorpe University Museum of Art.

    Spooky Nighttime Campus Tour

    Entrance of Weltner Library
    Oglethorpe historian Paul Hudson '72 will offer families and students a nighttime campus tour filled with OU history and fun facts. The tour will end at approximately 9:00 p.m. in the Great Hall of Hearst, which will be filled with fall goodies such as candy apples and apple cider, as well as soda, water and coffee.

    Early Bird Coffee and Newspapers
    Great Hall of Hearst
    Calling all coffee drinkers and newspaper lovers! Relax with a cup of coffee and a paper in the Great Hall of Hearst before the Breakfast with the President.

    9:00 - 9:30 a.m.
    Hospitality Table and Registration Check-in Point

    At the entrance of Hearst Hall
    Check-in and receive your welcome packet. Staff members will be available to answer questions.

    9:30 - 10:30 a.m.
    Breakfast with the President and the Parents Leadership Council
    Great Hall of Hearst
    Join President Schall and the Parents Leadership Council for a light breakfast, hear OU updates and ask questions!

    10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
    OU Bookstore
    Basement of Hearst Hall
    Load up on your OU gear and receive a Parents Weekend special discount of 20% off all purchases!

    10:45 – 11:20 a.m. 
    Study Abroad and Find a Career!
    Please note location change: This event will take place in the Great Hall of Hearst.
    Find out about study abroad opportunities from Dr. Jeffrey Collins, director of the Oglethorpe University Study Abroad program. Learn about the career assistance on campus from Lisa Littlefield, director of OU's Career Services office.

    11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
    Please note location change. This session will be in various classrooms instead of Lupton Auditorium.

    Picnic on the Quad

    Academic Quadrangle
    Join the Oglethorpe community for a picnic of fall favorites. Enjoy lawn games and a caricature artist! Petey the Petrel will be available for family photos.

    1:00 p.m.
    Men's Basketball Practice

    Dorough Field House
    Parents and visitors are invited to watch the OU men's basketball team practice!

    1:30 - 4:30 p.m.
    Cleats and Greeks

    Greek Row and John P. Salamone Soccer Field
    1:30 - 3:00 p.m. Parents and families are invited to a Greek Open House
    on Greek Row. Entertainment will be provided by a DJ, and sororities and fraternities will share a Greek life experience with parents and families.
    2:30 p.m.  OU Men’s Soccer vs. Huntington. Families are invited to cheer on Oglethorpe men's soccer team as they take on Huntington.  

    4:30 – 7:30 p.m.
    Shop, dine, enjoy Atlanta!

    6:00 p.m.
    The Dean of Students' Reception/Circle of Honor Induction
    Dorough Field House (
    Invitation only)
    OU athletes and their families are invited to attend a reception to honor scholar-athletes and inductees to OU's Athletic Circle of Honor. Paul Hudson '72 will give a short address on Oglethorpe athletic traditions.

    7:30 – 9:30 p.m.
    Night of the Arts

    Talmage Room, Emerson Student Center
    The staff of The Tower , Oglethorpe University’s literary magazine, presents a night of student-produced art and coffee-house style entertainment, complete with homemade food.

    9:30 p.m.
    Campus Bonfire
    In the fire pit in front of Goodman
    Students and their parents are invited to a campus bonfire. This is an old tradition that the students are bringing back. Don't miss your chance to enjoy s'mores (Hershey chocolate, marshmellows and graham crackers). Students who play acoustic guitars are invited to bring them along. Soft drinks and water will be provided.

    Sunday, October 26

    Try
    our recommendations of brunch favorites in Atlanta, or you can experience brunch in the OU dining hall, available from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Costs $8.25 per person. Please note: this is not included in the registration fee for Parents Weekend 2008.
